Visa 570 - Independent ELICOS
This visa subclass is for overseas students undertaking a non-award ELICOS as a stand-alone principal course, and not as a prerequisite to commencing another course eg a degree course.

ELICOS stands for English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students. It can be taken as either a stand-alone course or in a package together with a course leading to an Australian qualification: Certificate III or IV, a Diploma or an Advanced Diploma.

    Visa 571 - Schools
    This visa subclass is designed for overseas students undertaking, as their principal course of study, a primary school course, secondary school course, including junior and senior secondary, or approved secondary exchange program


    Visa 572 - Vocational and Tertiary Education
    This visa subclass is for overseas students seeking to undertake as their principal course, a course leading to the award of a Certificate I, II, III, and IV, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Advanced Certificate.

    Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses are offered by both VTE and higher education providers. Applications for a student visa to undertake these courses as principal courses must be considered under the VTE education visa subclass

    Visa 573 - Higher Education
    This visa subclass is for overseas students seeking to undertake as their principal course, a course leading to the award of an Associate Degree, Bachelors Degree, Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma.

    Visa 574 - Postgraduate
    This visa subclass is for overseas students seeking to undertake as their principal course, a course leading to the award of a masters degree by coursework or by research, or a doctoral degree.

    Students who are no longer enrolled in their course but are required, by their education provider, to remain in Australia for the marking of their thesis, may apply onshore and be granted this visa, for this purpose, for a maximum of 3 months.

    Visa 575 - Non-award
    This visa subclass is for overseas students seeking to undertake as their principal course a course (other than an ELICOS) not leading to the award of a degree, diploma or other formal award.

    Course which does not lead to an Australian award. Suitable for exchange students or for students who want to do a foundation course


    Visa 576 - AusAID or Defence
    This visa subclass is for full-time courses of any type undertaken by an AusAID or Defence student sponsored by the Australian Government
